Maleny Community Centre will once again come alive to the incredible dance beats of Gold Coasts Tijuana Cartel & Brisbane’s Dubmarine on Friday 29 May for another The Art of Mother Earth Dance event.
On the wash of a cult following established amongst Brisbane’s thriving reggae, dub and dancehall scene, Dubmarine combines reggae, hip hop, dub, DNB and dancehall, packing a punch which fills dance floors and leave no ground unstamped.
They will be joined by the Flamenco beat traffickers Tijuana Cartel and their infectious dance tunes for what will cap off an amazing array of quality music to celebrate the impending Winter.

Tickets will be $15 at the door from 800pm. Tijuana Cartel on first from 830pm!

Get there early.

2009 has begun in a whirlwind for JIGZAG with a full house and standing ovation on the concert stage at Woodford Festival, as well as being awarded the 2009 ‘Best Band Award’ at the Golden Fiddle Awards in Tamworth. These achievements are the result of 11 years of touring festivals all over Australia as well as Canada, UK, Denmark, Finland, New Caledonia and NZ.
On Saturday 16th of May Jigzag will bring their entertaining blend of folky/pop songs and high octane instrumentals to The Deck, Crystal Waters Conondale. Greg Bryce(guitar, vocals), Liz Frencham(double-bass, vocals) and Caroline Trengove(violin, Viola, flute and vocals) combine awe-inspiring musicianship with a rare and exciting chemistry and stage presence.

Their music is joy-filled, uplifting, warm-hearted and high-spirited.

After 4 albums the band are touring with their latest release and first DVD “JIGZAG FLYING LIVE”. Supporting Jigzag is Crystal Waters’ own ‘The Ravens Fire’ featuring Ross Hunter (guitar, vocals) and Amanda Roberts(vocals) who play smooth sailing, upbeat melodic music.

All this entertainment will only set you back $15/ $12 concession, kids free. From 6.30pm Dinner, beer and wine will be on sale. Camping, Bunkhouse and B&B accommodation are available.

Maleny Celtic Winter School – Music Workshops – Finbars 12 -14th June

Where: Finbar’s Irish Bar

When: 12 June to 14 June

Cost: $120

Maleny Celtic Winter School is a weekend of celtic music workshops set in the beautiful Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Maleny.

The focus is on workshops but the program also includes a concert, a ceili as well as plenty of traditional style sessions. The school is based in the town with all venues within walking distance.
Workshops will include:

  • Irish fiddle with Adrian Barker (Melbourne) and Fred Graham (Brisbane);
  • Irish flute with Beth McCracken (Brisbane) and Nicole Murray [+ tin whistle] (Maleny);
  • guitar and bouzouki accompaniment techniques with Jeremy Dunlop (Melbourne) and Steve Cook (Sunshine Coast);
  • Singing with John Thompson (Maleny);
  • Beginners tune learning sessions with Nicole Murray (Maleny) and Rachel Davey (Brisbane).
  • Other instruments (tenor banjo, mandolin, button accordeon) can be added to this list depending on demand.
  • There will also be a ceili dance workshop leading up to the Ceili dance on Saturday evening (13th June) with Davydd MacDonald.
